Dakota City, IA – Humboldt County and Webster County discuss joint drainage district during a joint meeting and are sending a letter to a company in regards to damages to the tile.

During a recent meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors they held a joint meeting with Webster County to discuss a joint drainage district. The district in question is known as DD Joint 3 and 9 and the discussion focused on broken tile along the district. Along with the two boards, Iowa Drainage District Association Legal Counsel Doug Struyk and McClure Engineering’s Dan Wiedmeir were also present.

Wiedmeir is the primary engineer working with Webster County on the damages. His discussion centered on Union Pacific Railroad and damages caused along their tracks. The engineer presented two options and that the expectation is that the railroad company would be covering the costs. He says the evidence suggest the damages were caused by work done by Union Pacific.

Struyk discussed concerns regarding the collection of payments from Union Pacific. He advised a letter be drafted to Union Pacific presenting evidence that the damages were caused by the company and expectation they shoulder the cost of repair. The legal counsel also suggested a swift issuing of the letter as it will be two years in December since evidence of damage had been discovered.

The letter is signed by both Humboldt and Webster County along with the engineer drafting the letter. The drainage district in question is located just south of Pioneer. The repairs to this district have been topic of conversation in both joint and separate meetings of the two counties.
