Humboldt, IA – Humboldt is helping correct a 45 year old problem with property lines in the Wheatland addition of the city.

The City of Humboldt is helping fix the property lines in the Wheatland addition. During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Humboldt City Council they took action to propose the vacation of a parcel of land in the Wheatland addition. City Administrator Travis Goedken says the reason for this motion is a result of messed up property lines.

He says that the problem started back in 1975. Back then a survey was done for a parcel of land according to Goedken. In this survey the data did not include two city right of way areas of former Risvold Street and Averson Ally. As a result the property lines ended up shifted thirty feet east of the actual line.

The city administrator says this is problematic for the city and property owners. Goedken says that the problem come from a house that sits on “what exists on paper Risvold Street” and is on city right of way. There is also a garage ton Averson Ally. He says the city plans to vacate that parcel of land and then fix some of the property line issues.

Goedken does say this issue was not created by the city but they are trying to help those property owners fix their property lines. As part of the resolution to propose the land be vacated a public hearing was set to further discuss the topic. The hearing is set for Monday, July 20 at Humboldt City Hall during the city council meeting.
