Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt Secondary Roads Department is continuing to pursue the grant funding for a potential Murray Bridge project.

As previously reported by KHBT the county board of supervisors has held discussion in the past with County Engineer Ben Loots about adjusting a portion of Elm Avenue along the west fork of the Des Moines River near Avery Township. During past discussions the supervisors encouraged the engineer to pursue the grant.

During the meeting on Nov. 23, Loots reports that he’s met with Shuck-Britson who does bridge inspections in the county. As part of the grant process the county needs to get preservation clearances. Shuck-Britson suggested the county have an alignment study done on a couple different scenarios to show the potential environmental impact.

The grant program is part of a $1 billion reinvestment the federal government has approved. Of that amount Iowa has requested $25 million for their roads and infrastructure. Loots says last he’s heard there are still eleven applicants left and eight spots for funding.

The supervisors thanked the engineer for the update on his efforts and asked he keep them updated as new information becomes available
