Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is raising the wages of certain positions beyond the standard adjustment.

During the meeting of the city council on June 21, they were set to approve the wages of city staff. City Administrator Travis Goedken says that council received two options on wage adjustments.

The first option was the standard increase of three percent across the board for all positions. The second option gave larger increases to certain positions that have been more difficult to maintain in the past with wages being a primary reason according to exit interviews.

The recreational director position will be receiving a pay increase of over $11,000 from the current annual salary. Goedken says that this increase will put that position level with other department heads. The rec center manager and rec supervisor will receive increase over the next three years to get them up to similar positions in other departments.

The head of the streets department and city clerk positions will both be getting a wage increase of about $4,000. The deputy city clerk will increase by about $11,000 to put the position at the same level as other assistant administrators. The administrative assistant position will receive increases over the next three year, identical to the rec center manager and rec supervisor.

In total, the change for the fiscal year 2022 will be $36,965.85 compared to what was budgeted. Council approved the wage increases for all positions as presented.
