Webster City tops Humboldt softball

Humboldt, IA – On Wednesday, June 16, Humboldt softball lost 11-4 at home to Webster City.

The scoring started quick in the top of the first for the visiting Lynx. Kelly Stoakes led the inning off with a walk and scored on a two run homer from Livia Kasch with one out. Jenna Miller doubled and scored on a double by Alayna Finucan.

The score would remain 3-0 through the top of the fifth. Humboldt got their first run in the bottom of the fifth as Jori Hajek drove in a run on a ground out, scoring Ashlee Wergeland.

The 3-1 score was short lived as four runs crossed the plate for Webster City in the top of the sixth. Nine batters came to the plate for the Lynx as they drew five walks in the inning to go along with a pair of hits.

In the bottom of the sixth the Wildcats got back within striking distance. They scored three runs, including a two run homer by Rylee Coyle, to make the score 7-4.

Webster City was able to add insurance runs in the top of the seventh as they batted around. A pair of untimely Wildcat errors joined four walks and a base hit to result in the scoring.

Humboldt’s starting pitcher was Elsie Hubbell, who is credited with the loss. She went five and one-third innings, giving up seven earned runs, five walks, four hits and two hit batters. She struck out two Webster City batters.

Webster City’s starting pitcher was Delainey Bargfrede, who is credited with the win. She went five and two-thirds innings, giving up six hits, four earned runs and four walks. She struck out six Wildcat batters.

Humboldt’s Kendal Clark was 2-2 at the plate and was intentionally walked in her last two at bats. Coyle was 2-3 with her two RBIs on the home run.

Webster City was led by Miller, going 2-4 in her at bats with two doubles. Livia Kasch was 1-5 with her home run, leading the team with two RBIs.

The loss moves Humboldt’s record to 8-7 this season and 3-4 in the North Central Conference. They have lost six straight games.

Alexis Hansen was named the Player of the Game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.

Humboldt’s next game is on Thursday, June 17, on the road against Forest City. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm, with JV to follow.
