Humboldt County, IA – As the 4th of July Holiday draws closer, local law enforcement is reminding the public where and when fireworks are permitted.

Chief Deputy Corey Lampe of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office says that the public does need to be mindful of the state and local ordinances that are in place. Humboldt County’s unincorporated areas follow the state law, along with Hardy, Livermore and Bradgate.

The state law says that, for the summer months, fireworks are allowed starting June 1-July 8 from 9 am-10 pm. On July 4th and the Saturday and Sunday immediately before or after the hours get extended to 11 pm. All fireworks must be launched on private property with owner’s permission.

Thor, Gilmore City, Ottosen, Renwick, Bode and Dakota City have forbidden fireworks with local ordinances. The City of Humboldt only permits fireworks on July 3 and 4 from 10 am-11 pm.

The chief deputy says law enforcement will respond to all calls they get regarding fireworks outside the permitted time frames. He says the first time may be a warning but repeated offenses could result in a charges being filed.

Those with questions regarding the permitted use of fireworks should call their local city hall or the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center at (515)332-2471.
