Des Moines, IA – Iowa officials are taking the time to recognize National Disability Voter Registration Week.

Iowa’s Secretary of State is encouraging Iowans to participate in National Disability Voter Registration Week. Announced via a press release Iowa SOS Paul Pate is joining the Iowa Developmental Disability Council to help promote National Disability Voter Registration Week. The week of recognition is July 13 through the 17.

This initiative is a nationwide nonpartisan effort to register, educate and prepare voters with disabilities for the 2020 election. Pate says he “wants voters with disabilities to know there are resources available to help them register and to cast their ballots.” He says the state is making great stride in curbside voting and having more accessible equipment available at polling places. Large print voter registration forms are also available for Iowans with low visible.

Public Policy Manager for the Iowa Development Disability Council Bill Kallestad says he’s excited to be partnering with Secretary Pate. He also says that this week provides an opportunity to help get the voices of Iowans with disabilities heard during the November election.

According the release approximately 300,000 Iowans have a disability. Resources and information about voting with a disability can be found on the secretary of state’s website at sos.iowa.gov/disability.
